As we go into the slow holiday week, the S&P 500 will probably hang around current levels. The daily fractal dimension is up to 48 and climbing as the market consolidates. The short-term is up to 60, and can start a brief downtrend at any time.
Gold also is marking time at the 38.2$ retracement level around $1,193.
Bitcoin has most likely put in its Month #45 low, and should start to rise at an accelerating rate. I don’t know what the specific catalyst will be, but the Month #45 low is when the exponential rise to Month #64 begins.

@Yossi, and others…
Below is an expansion of a useful comment you posted a few boards ago. I don’t have a medical background but will be passing this around to various places for people who don’t have a medical background, so tried to use mostly non-medical language. Okay as is, or do you have additional edits?
1. BELVIQ is a recently approved medicine to treat obesity.
• BELVIQ is appropriate for people who are obese (body mass index BMI over 30), or for overweight people who have additional medical issues (BMI over 27, plus diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol).
• BELVIQ reduces the desire to eat to excess, especially junk food.
• BELVIQ (Lorcaserin) has less severe side effects compared to Contrave and Qsymia weight loss combination drugs. Main side effects experienced by five percent or more of BELVIQ users include: Temporary headache for initial time using BELVIQ, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, or constipation. These side effects are not surprising, with reduced calorie intake and weight loss.
• Please try to start with half dose (10mg BELVIQ per day) for 3 weeks to let the body to adapt. (If you used Contrave and Qsymia, you would not start using the full dose from day one.)
• BELVIQ should be combined with a diet and exercise program whenever possible.
2. BELVIQ seems most effectively used in combination with Phentermine (“BelPhen”) for maximizing weight loss, or with Metaformin for type II diabetes management and weight loss (“BelMet”).
3. 10mg BELVIQ + 15mg Phentermine will have LESS side effects than 20mg BELVIQ.
4. The best BelPhen dosage could be 15mg BELVIQ + 15mg Phentermine per day
• Taken once per day in the morning.
• VERY potent and VERY safe, with surprisingly great results in 12 weeks.
• BEST weight loss medication ever, documented in medical trials.
5. BelMet is about HALF dose BELVIQ. You need only 10mg BELVIQ together with Metformin (for Type II diabetes patients).
6. When taking BELVIQ, diabetes medications may be able to be reduced, since BELVIQ improves blood sugar levels (A1c).
7. BELVIQ is also effective for smoking cessation.
• BELVIQ reduces the desire to smoke.
• At the same time, BELVIQ minimizes the weight gain problem commonly experienced when quitting smoking.
• BelSmoke is only about a twelve-week treatment.
8. Medical Insurance Coverage for BELVIQ:
• Today, about two-thirds of patients have insurance coverage for BELVIQ. Since BELVIQ is new, insurance coverage continues to be added by more medical insurance companies.
• There is a free 15-day BELVIQ coupon available at http://www.Belviq.com.
• Those who are not covered, can get a $75 off coupon to reduce the cost of the $199 per 30 day prescription, or get reduced BELVIQ prices at Wal-Mart.
• Recently, some MDs have received free samples of BELVIQ to give to new patients.
• Since BELVIQ reduces smoking and over-eating, some savings occur from reduced cigarette and food consumption.

@bruno machado da silva, I agree that he is. For the moment, we are getting killed by the action of Express Scripts regarding Abbie Vie, eliminating Gilead from its formulary. Besides many drug store chains, that affects military both on active duty and retired (TRICARE). What that means for ARNA is that it’s head is on the chopping block. After the decision of CVS Caremark to put Qsymia on its formulary for all CVS stores (mainly due to a judgment of efficacy and cheapness) the market is judging, IMHO that Belviq will lose out to Express Scripts as well. Say goodbye to the U.S. Pharmacy market if (and when) that happens. For Eisai, that means that they’ve got to get off their tail to make sure folks know that it is a new medication (lorcaserin) and that its efficacy beats Qsymia and OREX’s drug. That may be obvious to folks on this board, but for those who control the purse strings, this is not so. Again, IMHO
P.S. Adam Feuerstein is going to have a field day with this fro ARNA, if he hasn’t already.

@Opie, you are putting together facts and opinions.
“3. 10mg BELVIQ + 15mg Phentermine will have LESS side effects than 20mg BELVIQ.” need to be proved yet.
It’s based on the fact that 20mg BELVIQ + 15mg Phentermine did not have much more adverse effects than BELVIQ alone, and also based on understanding the MOA (but still need to be checked).
BELVIQ is NOT approved yet for smoking.
“Today, about two-thirds of patients have insurance coverage for BELVIQ” I think you are totally wrong here.
About 65%-70% of real scripts are covered, but I think that less than 20% of the population is covered (and only about 10% of entitled patients are covered).
BTW, the free samples bottles are for 30 days (unlike the coupons).

I did, and too many subscribers here know it.
It was LESS than $1.50 .
Please follow me: “LESS than $1.50″ Mr. “accountability”.
Now, please check what were the EXACT numbers when I said BUY regarding all 3 of them.
I’ve asked you a simple question: 8x is good enough for you?
First you’ll have to admit how much all 3 went up by now even without selling and buying again.
You’ve asked for it and you’ll get it.

@Don, one stock with less risk is AAPL. My dad has 700% profit on his AAPL shares I bought in his Roth a few years ago. He had everything in an annuity, but I had him put it into Scottrade and into 100% Apple when it dropped under $100 a few years ago before its 7 to 1 split. It was 100% of his account at that time, now AAPL is probably 80% of his account. AAPL also pays an almost 2% dividend which should be raised, possibly a lot, in the next few years with the earnings they should have. I have AAPL in all my accounts, my brother’s accounts, my aunts’ accounts and my dad’s account.

@CORBISIER, It was predicted that Belviq would be approved in Mexico, Canada, Brazil, and I forget where else. Of course, with every prediction of one of the approvals, came a prediction of a significant increase in the PPS.
It always blew my mind for them to predict Mexico would approve (and I don’t doubt they may at some point) but the predicted runup based on Mexico approval was hilarious.

@oldster3, I agree. MM, Current subscribers should get a “free one year” added on to their account for the very poor performance. I have no profits to pay for adding anything! New subscribers should get the price break, and any current subscribers willing to pay for a longer subscription, or having the means to do so on their own. But every current subscriber should get a free year NOW…NO STRINGS ATTACHED, and a commitment to redouble your efforts for making money. Face it. You have truthfully lost a lot of money for a great deal of people following your investment advice.

After selling out of Arena, I have no positions in NWI stocks. When stocks that are down so much start to rise, their rallies get sold into very hard, capping gains, as people looking to just get out on any pop sell, and then the buyers at the different prices on the way up sell at break even.
I will follow the board though, as there at least 6 posters that I think are very good sources of information.

@Donald Galamaga, So sad though completely keeping with the direction of American healthcare: a pharmacy benefits manager dictating what med can be used to treat HCV regardless of doctor knowledge and concern. As an HIV specialist for 30+ years I will tell you that dictating use of drug that requires 3 pills in AM and one in PM vs one pill a day will result in decreased compliance and increased treatment failures. But hey, it’s all about immediate dollars and who makes an extra buck (read kickbacks to PBM) not about thoughtful patient centric healthcare.
In terms of Belviq, once the malpractice starts against Q and C maybe those lawyers will figure out how to sue the PBMs. Now THAT would be progress. And the B may be the last drug standing….Happy New Year to all.

I think the problem is that you don’t have a positive picture of the world situation. You can’t say what the world will look like in 50 years. You can’t say what the infrastructure will be, what the government will be, how the currencies will work or what people’s values will be. Arena seems to me to be a very good guess, because nobody really wants to put up with fat, sick people, but nothing else you’ve touted comes close to preparing for the megashift. Not individualized medicine. Not bitcoin (http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2014-12-23/and-2014s-worst-currency-wasbitcoin). Not even your ridiculous speculations about the flu.

Put the individual patient response profile into the mix and the silliness of how the PBM process is structured becomes evident. Needs some Congressional oversight, IMHO..

It seems to me that the strongest possible support of the Arena share price would be the achievement of profitability. I’ve read that this could happen in 2015 on the strength of Belviq sales.
It also seems that if Jack has his shareholders’ interests uppermost in his mind, he would make profitability a very public goal, and would give guidance toward it. He would publicly eschew any financial actions that might undermine or delay it.
Finally, it seems to me that shareholders might be persuaded to gang up on Jack to convince him to take this public route.
Mr. J?

@keni,BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq:BCRX) today announced results from a proof-of-concept study of its broad spectrum antiviral BCX4430 for the treatment of experimental Ebola virus infection in rhesus macaques, conducted at the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID).
The primary goal of the study was to assess the effect of BCX4430 treatment on survival through Day 41 in animals infected with Ebola virus. Dosing of placebo or BCX4430 by intramuscular (i.m.) injection was initiated 30-120 minutes after virus challenge and continued twice a day (BID) for 14 days.
Animals were dosed with either placebo, 16 mg/kg of BCX4430 BID or 25 mg/kg of BCX4430 BID. Survival at day 41 in the 16 mg/kg group of BCX4430 treated animals was 4 of 6 (66.7%, p<0.001 compared to 0% survival in controls) and 6 of 6 in the 25 mg/kg treated group (100%, p<0.001 compared to controls). The overall survival rate for BCX4430 treated animals at day 41 was 10 of 12 (83%, p<0.001 compared to controls). Preliminary evaluation of the quantity of virus in the blood showed an approximate 3-log reduction in Ebola virus RNA copies/mL of plasma, compared with control animals.
"These results provide important evidence of BCX4430's potential as a treatment for Ebola virus disease," said Dr. William P. Sheridan, Chief Medical Officer at BioCryst. "We look forward to completing the ongoing Phase 1 clinical safety trial of BCX4430 in healthy volunteers and working with our U.S. Government partners in continuing the nonclinical and clinical development of this potential antiviral medical countermeasure."
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, is funding this project under Contract No. HHSN272201300017C.

@keni, A major pet peeve of mine are politicians masquerading as investment news letter writers such as Lee Bellinger, Richard Young, Stansberry and others too numerous to mention by name but you know who I’m talking about. Mr. Murphy does not fall into this category and is a reason I’ve stuck with NWI as long as I have. All I’ve asked for from these newsletters over the years is sound competent investment advice sans the political pap. If the advice provided is sound money can be made no matter who is in the White House or which party runs Congress.
The politicians sell investment newsletters by plugging into our biases and pushing our political hot buttons. Lastly, when their advice results in failure they point to their political opponents as the reason for their failure.

@Carl Manthei Flygt, Cheap oil is due to oversupply from shale, tar sands. Those who claim inflation is dead don’t do shopping in the real world. The items that matter are up significantly–rent, food, medical insurance, medical malpractice insurance, college tuition. As MM says, cheap oil is not a tax cut–it is an indicator of bad times for an important US oil industry. This will increase odds of recession which will create more money printing and eventual bad inflation.

I think they should move fast forward with BelSmoke, BelPhen, and BelMet.
The market should know their plan; they must show they are committed to move fast forward regarding all 3.
When I say BelPhen and BelMet I don’t mean it has to be in one tablet (the combo).
They should run appropriate clinical trials to convince docs regarding efficacy and safety, and for changing the label.
Pipeline is great but it should be given lower priority.

ARNA —– still has an excellent recovery chance – but needs a NEW CEO before April 1 with big Pharma Profitability success not like the 2 Idiots brought in to Save Dendreon
2nd CEO replacement was brought in to set up the DNDN into BK in July 2014
Not sure if anyone noticed this both ARENA PHARM and DENDREON had debt with Deerfield ……. ??

@MR MICHAEL HAAS, I case noone has noticed, Bummer Care will eventually and rather quickly degenerate that the lowest cost is not only best but the only for most of us. After all, since no medication is 100%, the rest of us healthy tax payers are better off without those folks who need those costly meds. Let ‘em go,

@MR. RUSSELL LAUDON,
…..But different this time ….. Cheap Oil is being forced by OPEC to kill competitive fracking OIL supply in the US
Oil is not going down because of weak demand – just Greedy OPEC willing now to take much less profit — OPEC cost per barrel is 10-12 bucks and they are rich already so they can control downside price and still have profitablility
Demand is present for OIL and will remain until Battery powered cars are at minimum ~ +40% market share and range is over 200 Miles with each charge
SO in my opinion — no recession or mild one at best …

@pwon, 1) not really, because our government will continue to run large fiscal deficits and the Fed will do whatever it takes to fight deflation, where the pressures now are worse due to low oil prices. Worldwide, all central banks have decided to debase their currencies to either fight deflation or get a trade advantage.
2. The discount is set by arbitrageurs, who look at the likelihood the deal will close, and the length of time they have to hold the position. Today they make 2.85% in 75 days, which they can lever 10-1 with margin. The discount will shirik over time

This board of participants is sounding more and more like the typical American that wants to blame somebody else for there own shortcomings and get bailed out when they make the wrong decision I would venture to say most are w-2 people and not 1099 people (employee versus owner mentality). If you don’t like what your getting stop doing what your doing. And please just go away and non subscribe. Don’t be whipping boys and girls and then stay as a subscriber complaining. Nobody forced you to sign up and nobody forces you to stay. This is the real world at NWI. You are responsible for your decisions and you must live by them. I have made and lost money but I made the choice to buy and sell the recommendations. I own my actions. I would suggest you all start acting the same. Otherwise it takes away from a wealth of information that could be useful on this board.

Well other than the predicted rollover of biotek (which may or may not happen) I see no reason not to do as you suggest. The chart (in spite of Oldster’s negative vibes) seems MUCH better than Arna’s. Myself, I am indeed selling ARNA at opening today (the few shares I hold in a “tracking” mode), and putting equivalent in ATRS to track for awhile.
Bye Bye ARNA – Wish I could say it has been fun but – – –
IF ATRS holds above that 200 now and does not retrace to the lower green line, it will be even better.

IFNY:
I tried 2 times to post this message on the IFNY forum but it didn’t work so here’s my message:
——– FINAL 12/24/14 —–
A few weeks back I sold my free IFNY lottery ticket. After tons of due diligence I have a +17.92% profit in IFNY over 5 years for an annualized gain of 3.35%.
That profit was derived from my profit-protection trades in 2013 and 2014.
My time with IFNY was worth the experience but certainly not
worth the profit. I learned to NEVER invest in such a grossly under-
capitalized and early speculative company. DUH!
Thankfully I never invest more than I can comfortably afford to lose on any speculative position.

@Hagar, As much as the best biotechs dropped this week up till today, I think that was about all the rollover you’re going to get. Too many expiring patents and big bios flush with cash looking to buy up smaller companies to jumpstart their growth. Plus the biggest biotechs all seem to have a few big catalysts each coming the next few years in addition to fairly high earnings growth the next 2 years.

@oldster3, Won’t happen. Insureds will not accept being forced into less effective, more dangerous, more inconvenient treatments just so insurers and pharmacy benefit managers can maximize their profits. I think the Abbvie deal is going to come under heavy anti-trust scrutiny. The medical companies have more money than most other groups and they heavily spend it on lobbying. The Abbvie deal will be overturned or modified is my guess.

@Donald Galamaga, Right now, I don’t waste my time trying to get belviq coverage by insurance companies. Too many don’t cover it, and then the copays are too high. I tell the patient to take the free trial. If it works without side effects, they should be glad to spend the money. If they think that anything is more important than their health, I don’t want them as patients. When fatties are willing to spend $1000 for a few days as Disney, and more on excess eating at restaurants, I know they don’t give a damn. Forget insurance, and target the serious patients. After all, fen-phen succeeded with cash paying patients who were serious.
